The body of an East Islip man who had fallen overboard from his 34-foot Fountain boat has been found.
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of Samuel Gutierrez, 47, whose body was found floating in the Great South Bay, just south of Timber Point, said the Suffolk County Police.
The department received word of a body floating from a 911 caller around 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, police said.
Gutierrez fell overboard without a life jacket around 11 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23.
The Coast Guard had suspended its search late Tuesday night, for Gutierrez who reportedly entered the water near Heckscher State Park.
Coast Guard officials, along with Suffolk County Police marine unit, the Great River Fire Department, spent all day Tuesday on the Great South Bay searching for Gutierrez.
Gutierrez was aboard the boat with two women when he went overboard. The women, who could not operate the boat, called for help.
The Coast Guard said they searched a total of 234 square miles by sea and air.
The body is being transported to the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
Sea Tow also participated in the search effort.
